School Children in Stubbies Schoolwear

Growing up Stubbies:
a short history of Stubbies Schoolwear

When Stubbies first took kids back to school in 1972, things were different. We were dropped at the gate in Kingswoods and Valiants, Billy Thorpe was the name we wrote on our pencil cases and we all flocked to see The Poseidon Adventure of a weekend. Your poor old Mum probably did the washing in a twin-tub.

Today, the sons and daughters of that first Stubbies generation are themselves at school. And they're still wearing Stubbies.

In the 36 years in between, things have changed and we've learned a lot about what kids (and their parents) want in a school garment.

We know which modern fabrics wear best, which cut kids prefer and what features are needed for easy care.

All Stubbies garments are put through rigorous quality testing. Today, they're tough enough to take the hard knocks that playgrounds dish out, but smart enough to keep their colour through rain, hail or Friday afternoon double maths.

Our product range has expanded too; you wouldn't have found fleecy-tops, cargo shirts or polos in the science labs of '72.

Thanks to our huge network of national retailers and independent schoolwear specialists, you'll find them all over Australia today.

But despite all the innovation and technical advances, we've remained true to the key Stubbies promise: quality at a great price. It's what our brand is built on, including Stubbies workwear and casual gear for grown-ups.
